Banford, Woodyatt, Higley
My ancestor John Banford was born in Mathon around 1781, he possibly had a brother William Banford born 1778. I believe John Banford was a general labourer or possibly a cordwainer (shoemaker). He married a Sarah (or susanah) maiden name unknown possibly around 1820 and they had several children. Upon marriage I think they had moved to Upton on Severn. Amongst the children they had twin daughters Sarah born circa 1826 who in turn married a Richard Woodyatt (c1850) and Martha who married a John Higley (c1847). Any confirmation or additional data would be very interesting. Thankyou for your time and interest. Chris Banford, Church Gresley, Derbyshire

Thanks for the reply, I was aware of the numerous items found when Googlng Richard Woodyatt, but it is a very common name in the Mathon area. On 'Ancestry' there are several family trees for the Woodyatt family. I believe a Richard Woodyatt was the local 'Hayward' c1780-1800 (unsure if this is the same one with a link to your Dolefield cottage), but on the web sites I have so far looked at I can only find one linking my ancestry by marriage. The Richard Woodyatt in question b c 1828 was a labourer in 1850 on his marriage to Sarah Banford (his father Richard Woodyatt was a gardener). My family surname Banford (and also the corruption Bamford) is also very common within the Great Mavern area but finding connections for these families of general labourers between 1700 - 1800 will I imagine prove quite challenging.
